Dear Friends, remembering my Great Grandmother, Minna Demmel nee Henselück. Today, 15th December, is her birthday. She was born in 1870 in Nuestettin Germany, 148 years ago.
Minna married George Demmel, in St Boniface Church Mile End Old Town, London in 1888 at the tender age of 17.
In 1890 gave birth to my Grand Mother, Amalia Demmel, when Minna was 19 years old.
In 1892, their son, my Great Uncle, was born. George Francis Demmel served in the Royal Navy during WW1.
In 1893, their youngest daughter, Minnie Demmel was born.
RIP Oma, your family remembers you with love and pride.
Their WW1 story is told in my book, Mizpah Cousins: Life, love and perilous predicaments during the Great Was era.
Beautiful photos! 148 years ago today–I can’t wrap my mind around that. It’s incredible hat you still have these photos of the family!

My mum was 47 when she had me, hence my Grands come from 2 centuries ago. It gives me a unique insight into the WW1 era. My parents, born early in the 20th century, lived through both World Wars. One can hardly imagine the scars that must have inflicted. But my parents were amazingly positive people. Thank you so much for your comment.

I can hardly imagine the stories they must’ve told, if they were willing to share. It’s incredible to think about how much our world was altered and altered again during that time–how much my own world has been altered over these 22 years, as well! Like I said, it’s always so difficult for me to wrap my mind around the passing of time and our ancestors’ experiences–but it’s so cool!
