Greetings From Athens

A three night sojourn in Athens has proved delightful. The International Hotel provided a warm welcome, and comfortable amenities. A nearby tram, enabled affordable travel to the old town, and the sea shore.

Our first days exploration, took us on a pleasant stroll past palaces and churches to, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This war memorial is located in Syntagma Square in Athens, in front of the Old Royal Palace. It is a cenotaph dedicated to the Greek soldiers killed during war 1. The guards are called Evzones and they are members of the Presidential Guard. They wear a traditional uniform that dates back to the 19th century and perform a ceremonial changing of the guard every hour 1. Their movements are very graceful and almost balletic, symbolizing the strength and power of the Greek military 1
