Hello dear friends. I hope you are keeping safe and well. I have discovered a lovely free app that colourises black and white photos. Perfect for whiling away our days in lockdown.
Colouring old photos brings out many nuances and seems to imbue the pictures with life. The featured picture is of my ancestors in the 1930s, gathered outside the family home in Swedenborg Street, London.
The original looks like this:-

My family history between the wars is featured in my book, Betweenwhiles: A family between two wars – a true story of rebellion against Nazism
If you live in the UK, this is on offer for 99p to celebrate Victory In Europe Day. During these challenging times, we are all looking for inspiration and courage. My historical novel, Betweenwhiles, reveals a story of love, overcoming tribulation. The book, inspired by true events of an ordinary family, follows the timeline of kinfolk endeavouring to reunite after the turmoil of WW1. The conflict climaxed with the outbreak of the Spanish flu. The pandemic killed millions around the world. Chaos and deprivation created a revolutionary hotbed in Europe. Through my family’s defiant reaction, you will discover how Europe fell towards WW2. How individuals can make a difference. How what we are experiencing now, contains echoes from the past. Be inspired.
Both are lovely photos, and I agree that the added colour adds a huge new dimension. (Gorgeous fashions, too!)
