I have long wondered what my Grandfather, Emil Heitmann looked like. I have one old grainy picture of him (the soldier in Germany uniform on the right) but his magnificent handlebar moustache obscures his face. Recently, I found pictures of his siblings. These, I have lovingly restored and colourized.
On the top left is Carl then sisters Anna and Alwine.
It is a joy to recognise how my Grandfather looked, through the faces of his siblings.
Emil Heitmann met my British born Grandmother, Agnes Meyer when they both worked at the Hotel Regina, Paris. They then moved to London, but the Kaiser caught up with him, and Emil was recalled, reluctantly to Germany to fulfil his national service. You can discover my Grandparents moving WW1 story in my book, Mizpah Cousins.

Lovely photos, Margaret. I think you’re right; the colour does add an extra dimension to old photographs.
